in vs2010 you can create .sql file with intelisense same as mssql.
add "edit in vs2010 mode" to create sql file with all of .net feauther.

Note! This version will only work for Visual Studio 2010 Beta 2 Version 0.2.1 and older works for Beta 1.

Installation
To install, download the VSIX package file and double click it to start the install. After restarting VS, the addin can be started from the Tools->SQL Azure Explorer menu or from the View->Other Windows->SQL Azure Explorer menu or clicking the blue database icon in the "Other Windows" toolbar.

Fixes
This is just a fix/update for the SQL Azure Explorer tool window caption/title. When we moved to beta 2, the title reverted back to the default. No new functionality.

Please NOTE that this addin is no longer needed, because Visual Studio now has built in support in the Server Explorer for Azure. This project is kept in Codeplex for those who want to look at the code. The last version was compiled for Visual Studio 2010 beta 2.

This is an attempt to learn something of SQL Azure and VS2010 Extensions development by creating an SQL Azure Explorer Extension/Addin for Visual Studio 2010, even though Microsoft will probably provide such a tool eventually, this is for learning and having some programming fun.

Version 0.2.3

No new features, just a quick fix to get the title/caption of the explorer tool window correct. Sorry about that.

Version 0.2.2

This version works for Visual Studio 2010 Beta 2. No new features.

Version 0.2.1

Version 0.2.1 is the same as 0.2.0 except for a small bug fix where users where always listing users from the master database (note to self - never release when you cannot run integration tests for some reason)

New version released with new features for creating and dropping databases, logins and users:

New version released with the same functionality but with better UI performance (async loading of databases, tables etc.). Please download and feedback.

I would like to know if SQL Azure Explorer is available by default in

Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate, Version 10.0.30128.1 RC1Rel

How do I check in the VS2010 IDE if an add-in is installed?

Is there an update after the release of VS 2010 Ultimate such as the one I am using.

Hi Mark (I guess it is :)

Not sure I understand the prob fully. You say SQL Azure is not working with .NET 4.0, but this whole VS addin is written in VS2010 and .NET 4.0 so I'm a bit confused :)

The connection you mention, is that the properties window in the SQL Azure Explorer addin or elsewhere?

Can you please explain in more detail what you tried to do, and I'll update my directions!

Yes, it's for VS2010 (beta 2 right now) only, I hope I've written that everywhere. If I forgot to mention it somewhere, please let me know.

Great tool after I got it to work. After scratching my head for hours and surfing for solutions I found that SQL Azure doesn't yet work with .NET 4.0 and that is only supported with .NET 3.5. The other problem was getting a connection, which is done through the SQL Azure Properties window. I recommend that you add those items to your directions. Cheers!

Another solution: You click on the hyperlink and then check the allow button in the dialog that follows. After you close and reopen Visual Studio the extension should be enabled.

I'm pretty sure this is because you installed the addin as a normal user but runs visual studio as an elevated administrator. I had the exact same issue so I'm running VS2010 as a normal user and it works fine.
